Many people think that press releases are an old fashioned means of marketing yourself or your business, but this is very far from the truth. Press releases are often a forgotten marketing tool, yet they can be incredibly effective for your company and are a great way of reaching your potential client base. And the good news is that, with some practice, anyone can write a press release in under an hour.
A press release is more a means of announcing something rather than selling, so you need to structure it around open questions (what, why, when, where, who). Answering these questions will then become the basis of how you present your press release. Your aim is to present ideas and solutions to your potential clients so they will rush to contact you.
One
Make sure you know what you are going to write about and then stick to the point. It could be an event or an achievement or announcing another service your company offers.
Two
Your press release should be approximately 5-6 paragraphs in length, each containing around 4-5 sentences. It is best to keep the overall number of words to around 500.
Three
Make sure you have a title or headline and a summary and repeat the headline in your first paragraph and summary so it is fresh in the readers’ minds.
Four
When you choose your keywords, be careful to not overuse them in your writing. It will sound unnatural and your readers will be able to spot it a mile off.
Five
Make sure you include a link to your website or blog and it is a very good idea to also offer a free report or e-book or something else that will prompt potential clients to contact you. Ensure that you offer quality, useful material.
Six
Once you have finished writing, you must re-read what you have written and proofread it, checking for spelling and grammar errors as well as word omission or misuse. This is extremely important.
Seven
Next, you need to submit your work to the distribution sites that exist online. These are numerous and some are free whereas others charge a small fee.
Eight
You can also share your press releases via Facebook, Twitter and different discussion and group forums. Ask your friends to pass your work to their friends and leave comments.
Nine
Aim to write at least one press release a week. This will build up over time into a sizeable online presence – all of which will lead back to your business.
